HalfTone Guitar PedalModeled in Rhino 3D
Rendered in Blender
HalfTone is a concept overdrive pedal built as a personal exercise in product visualization, illustration, and storytelling. The name plays on two ideas at once, the halftone dot pattern used in the pedal's graphic design, and the literal "tone" a guitar pedal shapes. As a home musician, I have always loved the character that comes with guitar gear, especially the art that often ends up on the front of a pedal. I wanted to create something in that spirit while pushing my Illustrator skills with a bold, halftone-style graphic treatment for the "HalfTone" branding.

To bring the concept fully to life, I created a short animated render in Blender. The camera moves around the pedal with a handheld shake, letting light sweep across the worn metal and reveal the scratches in motion. As the camera swings around, the bypass switch clicks, the indicator light switches on, and the hum of a guitar comes in which is followed by a few chords. All the audio is recorded and edited by me.

The HalfTone pedal itself was modeled in Rhino 3D, envisioned with a metal enclosure and plastic knobs. I brought the finished model into Blender for rendering. Rather than presenting it as a brand-new product, I wanted to imagine it with a history. To tell that story, I focused heavily on material realism. I created procedural material in Blender that scattered scratches and wear across the metal housing so the surface reads as lived-in rather than pristine. The scratches catch and scatter the light in a way that feels honest to age and use.
