Looking to nature
Each leaf holds one of a kind textures and colors that I wanted to capture and display in a memorable way. By preserving real leaves, I bring the user closer to nature in their own home. Additionally, was always fascinated by the translucent affect that leaves held, and wanted to share it with others.

Finding the form
The form of the Fallen Leaf is directly inspired by the silhouette of a Chrysalis, another representation of change in life. I aimed to capture the mystique of the natural alien-like form.

The biggest challenge was finding a method of preservation that minimally affected the colors, texture, and structure of the leaves. I needed the leaves to feel as natural as possible after preservation.Soaking the leaves in a combination of plant glycerin and water.Drying the leaves from the soak, spread out on paper towels.CAD development
To develop the frame, I used a combination of Rhino and Grasshopper. Using Rhino to model the frame gave me the opportunity to craft the exact silhouette that I wanted and visualize it before I moved to the production stage.
